While the common cannonball tree (Couroupita guianensis) is already an exotic rarity, this critically endangered Central American native is exponentially harder to find. Known as the Paraíso tree, it is a crown jewel for serious collectors. It features the same mind-boggling trunk-blooming habit (cauliflory), but with distinct, ultra-rare pink-and-yellow blossoms that release an intoxicatingly sweet fragrance.
